Should you have never explored Artificial Intelligence, just go here, then ask a question or pose a task much as you might do with Google.
ChatGPT quickly returns a response, which will combine accuracy, plausibility, and, quite possibly, hallucination.
You are invited to play with it to devise your own walk exploring the Heritage of Canterbury (or wherever you are) over the weekend. It is a remarkable tool for Psychogeographic exploration, as it may lead you towards exactly what you have requested, or depending how you frame your enquiry, it may bluff, offer an impossible route, or even invent streets or locations. Repeating the same question may well produce different answers.
Think of it as a courteous stranger from whom you ask directions. That stranger my well know exactly what you are looking for, or they may have no idea at all, but rather than admit ignorance, they obligingly deliver a comprehensive plausible answer that may lead you astray. Much like the courteous stranger, ChatGPT always prefers convincing apparently comprehensive answers to an admission of ignorance, and these can involve AI Hallucination.
Quite often ChatGPT generates a walk somewhat reminiscent of Guy Debord's 1957 "Guide Psychogeographique De Paris", in that it offers discontinuous fragments of a route, leaving you to improvise connections.
Do record your track as you go, using an App such as Strava or OS Maps. Those who experiment with an exploration of Canterbury, do please join us to share your ChatGPT Tales on Sunday morning from 1130 in The Beanery Room. We might consider how AI helps understand Psychogeography, and how Psychogeography helps understand AI.
Last year The Winter Theory School embarked on explorations of Huddersfield and its history using ChatGPT. These involved a weekend of Themed Walking Routes, a ChatGPT-generated walking Monopoly game, and three ChatGPT-composed songs about the town. Have fun, and DO try this at home!
